An Evening with Anne Swithinbank

On Friday 9th March, the Society welcomed Anne Swithinbank to speak to 160 members and friends in Darland School Hall, Rossett.

Anne, an expert on growing indoor plants, trained at Kew and Wisley, is a panellist on the popular radio programme Gardener’s Question Time and contributes to a number of gardening magazines. Her topic was ‘Grow Something Different’ and her slides certainly showed plants that few of us had seen before.

Anne's slides can be downloaded as handouts by clicking here (PDF).

After cheese and wine had been enjoyed Anne responded to questions from the audience.
Everyone enjoyed the evening and one lady, on the way out, was heard to say she could not believe Anne had spoken for an hour and held everybody’s attention right the way through.

Anne is our fourth Major Speaker after Chris Beardshaw in 2015, Christine Walkden the following year and Bob Flowerdew last year. The surpluses generated from these talks will be used to support the activities of the Society and horticultural projects in the local community.

This event was kindly sponsored by Bellis Brothers Farm Shop & Garden Centre.
